Not the only but certainly the best way to ‘brew’ your favourite beverage for the hottest days of the year – Chill out with the ultimate Vegan Cold Brew magic.
Love at first sip
I still remember the first time I tried a vegan cold brew coffee at a cute little coffee shop, it was so full or flavour, refreshing and exactly what I needed on a hot summer day after strolling around the city. From that moment on, I was hooked and pretty much lived on it the whole summer. That’s why I started making it at home and now I’m sharing the recipe with you so you can join in on the fun too. Whether you sip it for breakfast or as an afternoon boost, it’s one of those drinks that just never disappoints.
There are a lot of ways to enjoy this drink
Another thing I love about cold brew is how versatile it is. You can drink it straight if you like it strong or dilute it with water or plant milk for something lighter. I usually add an oat-soy barista milk for creaminess — it blends so nicely with the coffee and makes it almost dessert-like. Soy, almond or even coconut milk also work, depending on what flavour you’re after.
And the best part? Once you make a batch, you can keep it in the fridge for several days. That means you’ll always have a glass ready to pour when the craving hits. Perfect for busy mornings, lazy afternoons or even as a fun base for coffee cocktails. And if you’re in the mood for a fancy treat, you can turn it into an ‘Eiskaffee’ (coffee float) by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some whipped cream on top — so fun and so delicious.
Seasonal Variations
Cold brew is also great because you can switch up the flavours depending on the season. Vanilla syrup is a classic, but in the fall I like using maple or a touch of pumpkin spice for that cozy vibe. Around the holidays, peppermint or gingerbread syrup makes it feel festive and in the summer caramel or hazelnut add a nice sweet, nutty twist. Once you’ve made your batch, it’s easy to keep it simple or dress it up depending on your mood.

What is Cold Brew, how is it different to regular coffee?
Cold brew is a refreshing way to enjoy coffee, perfect for summer. You make it by steeping coarse coffee grounds in cold water for up to 24 hours. Unlike regular coffee, cold brew is never heated. Regular coffee brews quickly with hot water, often resulting in a more bitter taste. Cold Brew has a smoother, less acidic flavour that’s ideal for a refresher. Plus, because it’s concentrated, you can easily customise your cold brew by adding water, milk, or sweeteners to taste.
What type of coffee beans are best for Cold Brew and why?
For a great cold brew, use medium to dark roast coffee beans. These beans, especially from Colombia, Brazil, and Sumatra, offer rich, chocolatey, and nutty flavors that stand out in cold brewing. Light roast beans can work, but they tend to be more acidic and less smooth. Always grind the beans coarsely to ensure a smooth extraction and avoid bitterness. The coarse grind allows for better flavor extraction over the long steeping process, resulting in a perfectly balanced cold brew.
Is cold brew stronger than regular coffee?
Generally, yes! You make cold brew by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for a long time. This process creates a more concentrated coffee with higher caffeine content per ounce. However, most people add water or milk before drinking, which makes the final beverage similar in strength to regular coffee. So, while the concentrate is stronger, your cup of cold brew might not be as intense, depending on how you mix it! I personally never notice a difference when consuming a cold brew versus a regular brew, but feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

Unglaubliches veganes kaltes Gebräu - erfrischend und einfach zuzubereiten
Zutaten
- 30 Gramm/ 1/4 cup Kaffee
- 500 ml/ 2 cups Wasser
Anleitung
- Measure 30 grams of coarse coffee grounds and combine it with cold water, I enjoy the ratio of a 500ml cup with 30 grams of coffee beans. This results in two cups of cold brew lattes usually. Feel free to experiment with different ratios.

- Cover and let it steep for 12-24 hours in the refrigerator. I usually prepare mine in the evening and drink it in the morning but some people enjoy a longer steeping time, again, feel free to experiment! After steeping, strain the coffee using a fine-mesh sieve or coffee filter. Pour the cold brew concentrate over ice. I like to add some deliciously creamy oat-soy barista milk and if I feel fancy then also add some cream on top. I can really recommend sprinkling some cardamom, cocoa or cinnamon on top too. Enjoy your refreshing drink!

How long does my Vegan Cold Brew last?
It’s essential to filter the cold brew coffee from the beans before storing it in the fridge. Leaving the beans in the coffee can cause it to become overly bitter and spoil more quickly. Once strained, transfer the cold brew concentrate to an airtight container and refrigerate it, where it will stay fresh and flavourful for up to a week.
How can I pair my Vegan Cold Brew for breakfast or guests?
Great question! I’d recommend trying out my healthy vegan banana bread oder diesen banana pancakes! Those options aren’t only great for a fancy breakfast but also to impress your guests next time they are over for afternoon tea or boardgames night!
